Newsletter January 2021
Newsletter GMAnapoli – January 2021
We’re starting off the new year with our children joyously celebrating TIMKET (i.e. the holiday of the Epiphany which falls on 19 Jan in the Ethiopian calendar). MANY THANKS to all of you who participated in our Christmas Campaigns.
The lottery associated with our Campaigns, which was available in streaming on 7 Jan 2021, resulted in the following winners from amongst our donors: Anna Cancro, Chiara Berardi, and Rosalba Cavallo.
TOGETHER for Ethiopia!
“No man can save himself from the storm”. The words of Pope Francis encourage us to look beyond our limits – whether geographical or intellectual. In Ethiopia the pandemic has now joined the already long list of fatal diseases: malaria, tuberculosis, malnutrition, etc. So how are they experiencing Covid in Africa? Here we’re talking about low numbers reported by the city hospitals, and not about the people living in forgotten villages where by day they live outside their huts and by night they are heaped together on bedstraws. The deaths in the villages are virtually ignored by the statistics.
And what is our and your response to this? EXTEND A HELPING HAND via Child Sponsorship, where with less than 1 Euro per day we can give hope and love to a little child even from afar: Doing GOOD does us GOOD.
2020 Financial Results: HOORAY!!!
Many thanks to all those who responded to our call for solidarity, to our supporters, to our friends, and to those who are working with GMA for the first time.
The financial year has closed with good results, also for the 5x1000 program and friends who have earned the title of “Big Donors”. You can take a look at the 2020 Financial Statement and our 2020 Final Report here
Rejoice with us and act as AMBASSADORS of our good work… we still have a lot of work to do! It’s never enough!!
With Child Sponsorship – Yes, we can…
For decades, we have been moving step by step into the lives of Ethiopian children, and now we are here to celebrate: our young man ABITI, who was welcomed as a child and grew up in the Shashamane Foster Home, has now earned a university degree in Engineering! We remember him when he was very young, timid but always ready to give a helping hand to the younger children and to us, always at the top of the class in his studies, and an exemplary Boy Scout. At only 11 years old, he was a leader in organizing the other children to prepare drawings and holiday letters for GMA, a task which he continued to perform even during this pandemic… where he masterfully organized the distribution of foodstuffs to our children and families, and documented the effort with much appreciated photos.
Best wishes to Abiti and MANY THANKS to his sponsor, Dr. Alfredo Mellone!
With deep emotion we listened to Amanda Gorman
with her inspiring words during the inauguration of the new President of the U.S.A.:
“The new dawn blooms as we free it.
For there is always light,
if only we’re brave enough to see it.
If only we’re brave enough to be it.”
Amanda Gorman – “The Hill We Climb”
